ACA: Repeal and Replace Process

Good First Step: Time to Replace Our Health Care System with Affordability and Options

WASHINGTON, D.C. – With news that House Republications have offered their first blueprint for replacing the Affordable Care Act (ACA), Katie Vlietstra, Vice President of Public Affairs and Government Relations for the National Association for the Self-Employed (NASE), the nation's leading resource for the self-employed and micro-businesses, today released the following statement:

“House Republicans have offered their blueprint for replacing the Affordable Care Act. The effort is a good first step and America’s smallest business community – the self-employed and micro-businesses – applaud efforts to eliminate the unfair individual mandate, while preserving key safeguards from the prohibition on the ban on pre-existing conditions to ensuring coverage to age 26 and lifetime coverage caps.

“While this process will take time, we encourage the Republican-controlled House to work with their Senate colleagues, and the Trump Administration, to move cautiously in developing a plan that is both affordable and offers options for the American people and the small business community. The plan should also offer incentives, like tax credits, to encourage individuals to enroll in health care coverage instead of penalizing them.

“Again, America is looking for a replacement plan attached to any repeal. With strong stabilization policies in place, the health insurance market will continue to offer affordable coverage for millions of Americans and ensure no-one loses this critical coverage.
