WASHINGTON, D.C. – Keith Hall, President and CEO of the National Association for the Self-Employed (NASE), the nation's leading advocate and resource for the self-employed and micro-businesses, issued the following statement in reaction to today’s release of the Senate GOP tax proposal:

“The Senate proposal for tax reform released today continues to encourage the overall simplification of the tax code and the compliance issues faced by small business owners.  As always the devil will be in the details, but any measure that can significantly reduce the time burden and the stress of compliance will be a win for small business.

“Small businesses, including the self-employed and micro-businesses, value their time as the most precious resource for their business. More time would mean additional sales or employees, time to save for the future and time to grow their businesses. Last week, the House GOP also released their proposal that would simplify the tax code.  These changes will help America's small business community save time and money and spur economic growth that will benefit our overall economy, and we support those ideals.

“The proposed changes to the tax code would have a significant impact on the over 27 million self-employed and micro-business owners who file their returns as individuals.  As the House and Senate proceed through the legislative process, we are committed to providing a voice for America’s smallest businesses and will continue to promote policies facilitating an economic environment to help the bottom lines of America’s ‘mom and pop’ businesses.  We continue to encourage small business owners everywhere to voice your opinion and let your congressional leaders know what is important to you.

"Throughout this process, it is our hope that policymakers on both sides of the aisle keep the interests of the smallest business community at the forefront as they consider how to boost economic growth. We look forward to working with both houses of Congress and the Trump Administration to ensure there is parity and equity in any tax reform package resulting in saving time and money for America’s smallest businesses.”
