NASE Applauds “Clean Slate” Tax Reform Framework Announced by
Senate Finance Committee Leaders
America’s Smallest Businesses Require a Level Playing Field with the Rest of Our Nation’s Business Community

WASHINGTON – With news of today’s “clean slate” tax reform framework introduced by Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-MT) and Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT), The National Association for the Self-Employed (NASE), the nation’s leading advocate and resource for the self-employed and micro-business, is calling the move “an encouraging sign”.

Katie Vlietstra, NASE’s Director of Government Affairs added, “today’s introduction will hopefully lead to an eventual result that places America’s smallest businesses on a level playing field with the rest of our nation’s business community.”

“Our tax code is incredibly unfair for America’s smallest businesses, the self-employed and micro-businesses, made up of over 22 million hard-working Americans contributing to our national and local economies. We need a just tax code that doesn’t unfairly penalize new entrepreneurs from opening their doors and existing businesses from expanding.

“At a time when bi-partisan seems to be a dirty word, we are thankful for the strong
leadership of Chairman Baucus and Camp along with Senator Hatch, on working towards comprehensive tax reform.  The tax code impacts every single American and efforts to overhaul could be the single greatest legislative achievement in our lifetime.  We look forward to working with leaders in both the Senate and House and Republicans and Democrats.”

The NASE continues to champion efforts by both the Senate Finance Committee and House Ways and Means Committee to complete a fundamental overhaul of the complex, outdated tax code, that places both a paperwork and financial burden on the self-employed.  The NASE supports the work of both committees and will continue to push lawmakers to complete their work with the ending result being an equitable, fair, and easy tax code.  You can read the NASE’s comment letters on comprehensive tax reform here and here.
