New Workplace Regulations

Oct 20, 2009
Posted by Molly Nelson - The Obama administration is proposing new federal workplace regulations that small business owners need to be aware of and in compliance with.

According to The Kiplinger Letter, some of the changes include:
  • Stricter enforcement from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA),
  • A new campaign for ergonomics, and perhaps another attempt at producing a specific rule on repetitive-motion injuries from OSHA,
  • A proposed rule by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) that would create a broader definition of disability and expand protection under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and
  • The implementation of a 2008 law banning the use of genetic information (including family medical history) in decisions on employment.
