Benefits of Working with Your Spouse

Dec 02, 2009

Posted by Maureen Petron -- Do you think you could work with your spouse?

The New York Times You’re the Boss blog has some first-hand tips about making a business partner out of your life partner, including understanding differing work styles and learning how to shut off the business.

If you’re an NASE Member, chances are you could add your own tips to the NYT’s list. Because 30 percent of you work with your spouse in your business.

That’s a pretty significant number, and one that the NASE keeps in mind when drawing together its benefits package every year. If both the husband and wife work in the business, it means you have given up all corporate, employer based benefits. We don’t take that lightly.

If you work with your spouse, you should make sure to check out the NASE HRA 105 plan. An HRA allows you to deduct 100% of your medical expenses, saving up to $3,500 annually in taxes. With the NASE, plan set up is free, and takes just minutes. Click here for more info, and log in to access the benefit.

And there are a number of valuable benefits that extend to not only to your spouse, but to all your family. TelaDoc, Assist America, emergency roadside assistance and our prescription discount card are just a few.

Meet Gilbert Garcia, owner of Coronado Appraisal Services in Albuquerque, NM. He runs his business with his fiance, Nicole.

Bonus: have other family members been hitting you up for a job? Here are things to consider before hiring your brother (or cousin or niece…).
