Q: What is the most effective means of introducing my staffing services to hospitals? How do I get the name of a direct contact person?

A: The first step is for you to identify your targets. If you are going to market to hospitals in your immediate area create a database all the hospitals you want to market to, their physical addresses, main telephone number, and website address.

Then, go on line and look at their job opportunities section. This should give you contact information for their HR manager. The next step would be to make contact with the HR manager via phone to introduce yourself and request a “short” opportunity to introduce yourself in person and drop off some of your marketing information. If the HR manager is not contactable, ask to speak with their assistant.

If you can’t make any personal contact, send a letter with marketing information and a strong motivation to visit your website. Then follow-up with phone contact.

Another lead in is to find out if there is a hospital HR association in your area or some other group that HR managers belong to. Then find out if they have associate memberships where you could join the group and do some networking.

The key to your initial efforts is to keep ongoing communications open with the decision makers, whether it be through the HR department or if they have a special department for staffing responsibilities.

It would also be a good idea to make contact with the medical offices that are commonly allianced with hospitals.
