Self-Employed Health Reform Teleconference Series

Oct 20, 2009

With Congress preparing for a debate on the Senate floor in the coming weeks, the National Association for the Self-Employed (NASE) invites you to participate in special series of conference calls for bloggers and online journalists to learn more about the nation’s smallest businesses, what they are looking for in health care reform and where the current health care proposals hit or miss the mark. For example, while politicians say reform is about lowering health care costs for Americans, the current bills will in many cases result in higher costs for the self-employed and micro-businesses, while delaying tax credit relief for this group until 2013.

We encourage you to dial-in to learn more about how current policy issues impact the 22 million Americans (and growing) who are self-employed or own a business with ten or fewer employees.

Self-Employed Policy Call Schedule:

  • Tuesday, October 20 (2:00 PM EDT) – Who are America’s self-employed and micro-businesses? What are the issues they face relating to health coverage and what do they need from health reform?  Join us to learn more about the self-employed perspective on health reform and how key components like mandates, small business tax credits and pooling mechanisms such as the Exchange or Gateway will affect this important business demographic.
  • Thursday, October 22 (2:00 PM EDT) – Will the self-employed be able to keep the coverage they have, if they choose?  Will health care costs decrease or increase for the self-employed after reform?  Join this call to learn about the challenges the self-employed will face in a post-reform health care system.

RSVP to Kristin Oberlander at koberlander@naseadmin.org for a toll-free dial-in number. Each call will begin with 15-20 minutes of remarks from Kristie Arslan, executive director of NASE’s legislative office, and continue with questions and answers.
