Initiative Aims To Unite And Inspire Consumers To Shop Small On November 24, 2012

Washington, D.C., November 20, 2012 – The National Association for the Self-Employed (NASE) today announced that it is an Official Supporter of the third annual Small Business Saturday taking place on November 24, 2012. Small Business Saturday is a day for dedicating holiday shopping to local, independently-owned small businesses.

The day after Thanksgiving is Black Friday and the Monday after is Cyber Monday but between these two days is Small Business Saturday. The NASE is proud to support this initiative to promote the small business entrepreneur and the growing number of self-employed business owners.

“We cannot emphasize enough the importance of supporting local small businesses in our current economy,’ said NASE President and C.E.O. Kristie L. Arslan. ‘We are encouraging our members to get involved in Small Business Saturday by reaching out to their customer base and working with local business organizations and public officials to grow support for this effort in as many communities as possible.”

Aside from American Express’ television ads, support for this initiative is mostly being conducted through grassroots outreach and social media. The coalition of advocacy groups, elected officials and corporate sponsors is promoting Small Business Saturday to their followers via social media outlets like Twitter and Facebook. There are many ways in which customers and business owners can be engaged and participate:

  • Register your American Express card at ShopSmall.com and receive a $25 credit when you spend $25 or more.
  • Supporters of Small Business Saturday are encouraged to go to facebook.com/SmallBusinessSaturday where they can share with their friends and ‘like’ the Facebook page to show support.
  • Small business owners can receive signs and posters to display at their stores to remind customers to come back on November 24th by going to SmallBusinessSaturday.com.
