NASE Applauds Today’s Bipartisan Vote in House on Passage of H.R. 4118, Simple Fairness Act

Bill Would Delay Individual Mandate Penalty for One-Year

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today’s passage of H.R. 4118, the Simple Fairness Act, in the U.S. House of Representative would give the American public and small business owners some much-needed relief by delaying the individual mandate for one-year.

Following today’s 250 to 160 bipartisan vote, Katie Vlietstra, Vice President for Government Relations and Public Affairs at the National Association for the Self-Employed (NASE), the nation’s leading advocate and resource for the self-employed and micro-businesses, released the following statement in support of the legislation:

“For over a year, the National Association for the Self-Employed has called for a one-year delay in the individual mandate penalty. After numerous reprieves for the ‘big business’ community, it is only fair that America’s small business owners receive the same fair treatment when it comes to the nation’s health care system.

We applaud U.S. Rep. Lynn Jenkins (R-KS) for introducing this important measure that impacts not only individuals, but also the millions of small business owners who must purchase health insurance on the Exchange Marketplace.  It is essential that the entire business community from the very large to the sole proprietor be treated with fairness and equity by our system.”

NASE has been active in calling for both a one-year delay in the individual mandate penalty and extending open enrollment until the end of 2014.
