WASHINGTON, D.C. – As millions of Americans make the change from employment to self-employment by choosing to become freelancers and solo entrepreneurs, Keith Hall, NASE President and Chief Executive Officer of the National Association for the Self-Employed (NASE) today releases a national self-help guide for new freelancers to consider when making the transition to self-employment. As a contributing partner to Mediaplanet’s Future of Work campaign distributed through USA Today, the campaign highlights a “new work culture that prioritizes employee well-being and balance, embraces flexibility as remote work becomes more popular, and offers resources and protections for a growing freelance workforce.”

According to Everlance, the explosion of gig economy workers – like Uber and Lyft – are part of a growing self-employed demographic, which now represent a whopping 33 percent of the economy. By the year 2020, it is expected that 42 million Americans will be self-employed and/or freelancers.  In another recent poll60 percent of small businesses indicated that regulations (labor, healthcare and tax) have negatively impacted their business operations. Despite these challenges, small businesses continue to be optimistic about the current economy, according to the poll above where 70 percent of small businesses signaled their support.
