S ince 1989, National Association for the Self-Employed Dependent Scholarship Program Has Awarded Over $2 Million in Tuition Assistance to Dependents of NASE Members
DALLAS, TX – As students head to college this upcoming school year, the National Association for the Self-Employed (NASE) , the nation’s leading advocate and resource for the self-employed and micro-business community, today announced it is awarding $15,000 in educational scholarships to five dependents of current NASE members, each granted $3,000 for their academic studies.
“As a record number of Americans continue to choose the economic dream of self-employment in the last few years, the rising costs of higher education for their children also has risen,” said John Hearrell , NASE’s Vice President of Membership and Affiliate Programs. “The NASE Dependent Scholarship is merit based and awarded to students based on their academic achievements, extracurricular activities, leadership ability and community participation. It’s our hope that the financial support aids and offsets the steep cost of tuition. We are proud of the work our small business and self-employed members are doing every day to both strengthen and fuel our nation’s economy, all while supporting their families.”
The NASE Dependent Scholarship Program is an educational scholarship awarded to the dependent of NASE members to help ease the financial burden of tuition and other costs associated with attending college. Five winners were chosen this year, and each will receive a $3,000 scholarship from the National Association for the Self-Employed.
This year’s NASE Dependent Scholarship Program winners are :
Savanna Cash, Scottsdale, Arizona. Savanna will use the scholarship to attend Northern Arizona University where she plans to major in Biomedical Sciences. Eabella Fretwell, Vero Beach, Florida. Esabella will use the scholarship to attend Florida Atlantic University where she plans to major in Psychology. Emma Schweitzer, San Diego, California . Emma will use the scholarship to attend University of California Irvine where she plans to major in Drama. Kyle Voorhees, Pawlet Island, South Carolina. Kyle will use the scholarship to attend Clemson University where he plans to major in Engineering. Joseph Whooley, La Cañada Flintridge, California. Joseph will use the scholarship to attend Louisiana State University where he plans to major in Animal Sciences with the ultimate goal of becoming a veterinarian. “Over the last thirty-five years, we have awarded over $2 million to dependents of our members through the NASE Dependent Scholarship program. Our NASE Dependent Scholarship continues to help defray the costs and ease the burden for many of our self-employed members. Rising higher education costs continue to impact the bottom lines of all Americans, and for the self-employed and micro-business owner committed to operating a successful business, it can further strain both their family and business’ budgets,” Hearrell concluded.
This award-winning program is open to legal dependents of NASE Members, ages 16-24. To apply, students need to be high school students or college undergraduates planning to enroll in college for the upcoming fall semester. Consideration is based upon:
