Washington, D.C., March 5, 2012 – The National Association for the Self-Employed (NASE) Awarded $82,930 in business grants to its members in 2011. Eighteen NASE Members, including a blacksmith and a chiropractor, received a grant from the association.

Through the Growth Grants® program, NASE Members can apply for up to $5,000 to meet a specific business need such as the purchase of new equipment or software, or the funding of advertising, marketing materials or training. Since the program began in 2006, the association has awarded over $600,000 to member businesses.

The NASE Growth Grants® program offers access to capital for micro-business owners who have a specific business need, but lack the finances to carry out that goal. The program was designed after an online NASE Member poll found that a majority of micro-business owners (57 percent) initially fund their businesses using personal savings, and many (40 percent) continue to use personal savings for ongoing financing.

“We know that it can be difficult for small-business owners to find the capital they need to put a new idea in motion,” said Kristie L. Arslan, NASE President. “We’re proud to help our members start, run and grow their businesses with our Growth Grant® program.”

The following NASE Members received grants in 2011:

Larry Bodine of Larry Bodine Marketing in Glen Ellyn, Ill.
