Roller Coaster Midterm Election Ends

On November 6, 2018, millions of Americans went to the polls in the what will be the most expensive midterm elections in history, an estimated $5B. Prior to the election Republicans controlled the White House, Senate, and House of Representatives. The political climate favored a flip of the House of Representatives from Republican to Democrat, which came to fruition with the Democrats picking up the necessary seats to claim the majority. Republicans were able to maintain their majority in the Senate, in fact, expanding their majority by picking up two seats in North Dakota and Florida.

In the 116th Congress, presumptive Speaker Pelosi will have to walk a fine line with a diverse Democratic caucus that will balance oversight of the Trump Administration with calls of impeachment, coupled with finding ways to work with the conservative Senate led by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, not to mention dealing with President Trump.

And as soon as the 116th Congress starts, all eyes will be on the 2020 election with President Trump seeking re-election against what will be a crowded Democratic field of challengers.
