NASE Welcomes Stimulus Package that Includes Relief for the Self-Employed, Gig-Economy Workers

As Process Moves Forward, Policymakers Encouraged to Include All Classifications of Non-Profits

WASHINGTON, D.C. – As the U.S. Congress prepares to approve its third phase stimulus package, “Keeping American Workers Employed and Paid Act,” the National Association for the Self-Employed (NASE), the nation’s leading advocate and resource for the self-employed and micro-business community, today welcomed the financial relief for the small business community, including provisions for the self-employed and gig-economy workers.  NASE also encouraged policymakers to include language supporting all classifications of non-profits as the process moves forward.

The following statement is by Keith Hall, the president and CEO of NASE:
“We are grateful that Congress has worked robustly in a bipartisan way during this national public health emergency to support America’s small business community. This vital legislation will help keep many small businesses afloat during this crisis, while also protecting the worker by incentivizing owners to keep workers on payrolls and receiving salaries. The small business community, including the self-employed, will also have access to immediate and expediated interest free loans and capital that will help them weather the next few months.

“The inclusion of the gig-economy and self-employed workers is a big win for both our community and our economy.

“While we appreciate the relief and support for all employees, small business owners and the self-employed, it is imperative that our elected leaders work to include all classifications of non-profits into this stimulus package. These key membership organizations and associations are critical to the life of our small business community and it is our hope that our elected leaders consider relief for them as well as they finalize the bill.  These nonprofit organizations provide a voice for many communities including small business owners, entrepreneurs, America’s seniors and veterans.

“This is a historic time and a historic relief package for the American people, but also for our small business community. We will continue communicating with our small business members around the country with important information on how to access this lifeline in the weeks and months to come as we band together.”
