For many people, a job description of “blacksmith” conjures up the image of an early American in a heavy apron making sure the town’s horses are properly shod. However, there are no horseshoes to be found at Wallace Metal Works, LLC, in Charleston, W. Va. Instead, company owners and NASE Members Tessie and Matt Wallace are artist blacksmiths who create hand-forged decorative and architectural wrought iron—much more complicated than just making horseshoes!

Pat Bennett, owner of La Mesa, Calif.-based small business Wicked Coursing, recently received a $20,000 award from the National Association for the Self-Employed (NASE).

Doug Springer, owner of Ellsworth, Maine-based small business Springers Gymnastics Center, today received a $20,000 gift from the National Association for the Self-Employed (NASE) in recognition of his excellent small-business practices and contribution to local youth, health and community development.

A year ago, Maryland CPA Tiffany Washington would never have dreamed that she would be adding $30,000 to her own business’s ledgers. But thanks to the NASE’s 2009 Achievement Award, that’s exactly what she’s doing.
