Modern workers might find it hard to believe that multitasking is a relatively new idea. For most of us, the need to accomplish many things at once seems like a given. But, believe it or not, the concept of multitasking didn’t crop up in the workplace until around the time that every desk got a computer. Current technology has become so central to our lives. If our computers can juggle three or four things at once, well, so can we. Or can we?

Yesterday, President Barack Obama signed into law legislation that will allow the self-employed to deduct their health insurance costs as a business expense for payroll tax purposes. Though only applicable to 2010 tax returns, the passage of this proponent is a key “foot in the door” for future battles on health costs and the self-employed, according to the National Association for the Self-Employed (NASE).
