Cooking Self-Employment

Brooke Kinsey is the Co-Owner and Chef at Bleu & Fig located in Columbus, Ohio. Brooke has long loved food and attended Johnson and Wales University in Virginia where she got her degree in culinary arts. Brooke met her business partner and Co-Owner Regina (a horticulturalist by trade) and together they started Bleu & Fig where they combined their expertise in catering and floral displays. When starting Bleu & Fig, they had the mindset that food should be entertainment unto itself. Brooke applied for an NASE Growth Grant so they could take their traveling business and set up a brick and mortar store front.

Coalition to Promote Independent Entrepreneurs Letter about DOL Funding

On behalf of the undersigned organizations representing millions of American workers and their families, we express our gratitude to you for your efforts to provide Congressional oversight over the Obama Administration's state grant program to address the misclassification of workers. Last year, the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) granted $10 million to 23 states to implement or improve worker misclassification programs. The Consolidated and Further Appropriations Act, 2015, Public Law No. 113-235, authorized this grant funding for "activities to address the misclassification of workers." While many states have existing programs designed to reduce worker misclassification, this is the second year that the DOL has awarded grants dedicated to worker misclassification.

NASE Op-Ed Published in Delaware & Nevada Newspapers

Two newspapers accepted and published an NASE op-ed on the importance of small businesses having access to Health Reimbursement Arrangements (HRAs). The NASE has been leading the charge for legislative action to reverse an IRS interpretation of how HRAs can be utilized under the Affordable Care Act.
