On Monday, May 6, 2013, the United States Senate passed S. 743, Marketplace Fairness Act of 2013, by a vote of 69-27 (with four Senators not voting). Requiring catalog and internet merchants to collect and remit sales tax to states. The legislation exempts those companies whose revenue does not exceed $1 million in internet sales.

Learn More About the Simplified Home Office Deduction!

On Tuesday, January 5, 2013, the Department of Treasury announced that starting in the 2013 tax year, a new simplified deduction calculation would be available for those with a home office, used regularly and exclusively for business, resulting in a $1,500 standard deduction. Based on $5 per square foot calculation, that would cap the allowable space to 300 square feet.
