Congress closed out 2011 by agreeing to a short-term extension of the payroll tax cut. Now that they are back in session, your lawmakers are wrangling to come to a longer one-year deal. As they debate another payroll tax extension proposal, I again encourage them to put partisan politics aside and pass the payroll tax extension.

The NASE’s recent call to Congress to heed the Self-Employed Agenda focusing on taxes was heard this week in the Senate. Senators Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) and Mary Landrieu (D-La.) introduced the Small Business Tax Extenders Act of 2012, which would continue some popular tax breaks for the self-employed and micro-businesses (10 or fewer employees) for an additional two years.

In a letter sent to the Senate Banking Committee on Monday, NASE along with 30 other organizations, urged the Senate to ensure that the CFPB is in accordance with the Snowe-Pryor provisions of the Dodd-Frank Act that ensure small businesses are not unjustly burdened with costly regulation.
