NASE Testifies Regarding Health Care Reform

NASE Senior Health Advisor Mike Beene testified before the House Small Business Committee on health care reform for small businesses. He told the committee that the cost of health coverage for micro-businesses plays a significant role as to why so many self-employed business owners go without or purchase a minimum coverage policy. The NASE believes that in order to improve the ability of micro-business owners to obtain quality health coverage, health reform proposals must address two key components: affordability and choice.

House Passes Obama’s $819 Billion Stimulus Package

In the first legislative success during his short tenure in office, the U.S. House of Representatives approved President Barack Obama’s sweeping economic stimulus plan, largely along party lines. The bill, the American Recovery and Investment Act of 2009 (H.R. 1), includes $524 billion in spending and $275 billion in tax cuts, among other expenditures.

Micro-Businesses Pessimistic About 2009 Economic Outlook

The slowing economy has hit small businesses hard over the last few months, and many entrepreneurs are only expecting things to get worse in 2009. Forty-three percent of the self-employed and micro-business owners say that this is the worst economic downturn that they have experienced, and one-quarter say it is the first slump they have experienced with their current business, according to a study undertaken by the National Association for the Self-Employed (NASE).
