WASHINGTON, D.C. – With another year of record-setting growth for America’s small business community,  Keith Hall, president and CEO of National Association for the Self-Employed (NASE), the nation's leading advocate and resource for the self-employed and micro-businesses, today encouraged the American public to show their support for our nation’s mom-and-pop small businesses and #ShopSmall this Small Business Saturday, November 30th, hosted by the Small Business Administration (SBA). According to the 2023 American Express Consumer Insights Survey, “projected spending among U.S. consumers who shopped at independent retailers and restaurants on Small Business Saturday reached an estimated $17 billion” last year.

Keith Hall, president and CEO of NASE, was part of the joint Winter 2024 small business campaign by MediaPlanet and USA Today both in print and online, featured in a Q&A, “Tools and Resources for the New Wave of Small Business Owners.” In the feature, Hall offers his thoughts about the record-setting growth of small businesses while highlighting essential policies, tools, and resources to support the journey into self-employment. The feature also provides insights to help small business owners effectively prepare for the challenges and opportunities as the end of the year approaches.

“With continued record-setting growth of over 19 million small business start-ups recorded over the last three years, we must continue to support our community by shopping local this Saturday and throughout the holiday season,” said Keith Hall, president and CEO of National Association for the Self-Employed (NASE), the nation's leading advocate and resource for the self-employed and micro-businesses. “This unprecedented growth speaks to the resilience, persistence, and determination of America’s smallest business owners who continue to be the driving force behind our nation’s economy and deserve our support this weekend and throughout the year.  American entrepreneurs continue to step into their dream of owning their own small business, oftentimes stepping out of the unemployment line to become a job creator for their local community.”

As the end of the year approaches, Hall continued by suggesting existing and new small business owners: make sure you have your records in order. Make sure you're reconciling your bank account. Make sure you have good control over all those records, because whether you do the tax return yourself or you have a tax professional do it for you, you're going to need all that paperwork.”

NASE advocates and gives voice to America’s smallest employers, the self-employed and micro-businesses, before our elected leaders in Washington. In addition, NASE serves as a critical resource for new and existing small businesses in their operations. Specifically, NASE offers a robust Growth Grant program – sponsored by AARP, DELL Small Business, and Payanywhere – to Ask The Experts business and tax advice and the NASE Minute video with free business advice online to both members and the public. The association’s goal is to support the small business community to help them to grow and thrive.

“From Generation Z small business owners launching a dream to those retired Americans starting a second career as their own boss, this Saturday shop local and support America’s small business community.  The millions of solo entrepreneurs, mom-and-pop shops, and gig-economy workers who are all part of this record-breaking growth continue to drive and fuel our nation’s economy. These small businesses represent and exemplify the best of our country’s ingenuity and entrepreneurial spirit. Make sure you #ShopSmall this Saturday, and if you are one of those millions of record-breaking small business owners then remember you are not alone and we are here to support your journey,” concluded Hall.
